There's also yatai (屋台), which are street-cart food vendors. They're quite famous in Fukuoka, but are sadly diminishing into obscurity.

Or if you're anywhere in Japan during matsuri season, those festivals have such a variety of food stalls that no one walks away hungry. Summertime fun!
