"Stories and Art" as a way to describe historical artefacts is a new way for me to think about it. Maybe I'm an oddball, but I like reading raw material from prior centuries: captain's logs; custom house manifests; tables of scientific data points; lists of species; etc.
I'd recommend keeping it simple: take a representative sample of the various photographic artefacts and document the date and place where they were taken, and note the names of all the people in the photo (not just important or notable people), as well as the names of buildings, streets, natural features of the landscape, etc.
By doing it this way, future users of the material have a factual basis for intertwining your curated material with material from other people, and can draw their own meaningful art and stories.
