Previously, whenever I was forced to do a whiteboard exercise in an interview, I gamely went along with it. I thought the interviewers would evaluate my approach, not my results.
But over time, I lost faith in that. Interviewers seem to expect stand-up perfection after all.
So now I try my best to wiggle out of the whole exercise, and if I can't, I just assume that the job will go to someone else who can play that game.
