Many is the time when I've started a manuscript with an assertion, only to discover upon careful fact checking that my assumptions needed to be more nuanced, and upon careful editing that my opinions needed more clarity.

So yes, the whole writing process makes me a better thinker, and thinking is one of the chief pleasures in life.
