I would describe ikigai as the ineffable state of grace that comes from the uninhibited pursuit of happiness.

Cultures that allow mystism to be interwoven into their daily lives have an easier time with this notion. The difficulty for modern western culture is that we're too logical, too intellectual, too purpose driven.
